The crisis in deforestation is demonstrated by the rapid reduction of forest areas and the deterioration
of soil quality, water, and climate. It is well accepted that forests performed and still perform the
indispensable role of maintaining an ecological balance between soil, wates, flora and fauna on which
life as we conceive it depends. Problems associated with forest degradation are discussed. The
integrated research carried out at the Sakaerat Environmental Research Station (SERS) in used as a
guide to bring research results into application. This integrated view has resulted in a presentation
which could be applied directly for the improvement and up-dating of policies and methodology for
forest land and resources management. Recommendations are also made with the understanding
that human and social factors are of paramount importance in the restoration of tropical forests.
